The memorial is a bronze plaque inside the parish church of Nun Monkton and is inscribed as follows:

“To the Glory of God and in Memory of

No. 29212 Cpl. William Taylor1/7th East Yorkshire Regt

and also of

No. 41305 Pte Walter Wright 16th West Yorkshire Regt

Both of Nun Monkton who gallantly gave their lives in the Great War 1914 – 1919
Erected by the Inhabitants of this Parish AD 1919”

Taylor, William
Corporal 29212, 7th Bn., East Yorkshire Regiment. Killed in action 28th July 1917. Aged 32. Son of Joseph and Jane Hannah Taylor, of Nun Monkton, York. Buried Harponville Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France, F. 24. William Taylor also served as S/26571 in the Army Service Corps.

Wright, Walter
Private 41305, 16th Bn., West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own). Died 5th August 1917. Buried Niederzwehren Cemetery, Germany, IX. E. 7.
