The inscription is as follows:
"In Grateful Memory of Fred Gavigan R Fusiliers of Acaster Selby and all his comrades who fell in the Great War 1914 - 1918. O Lamb of God All Pitying Blest Grant Them Thine Eternal Rest"
Fred Gavigan is buried in Acaster Selby churchyard.

Fred Gavigan's grave has the following inscription:
"In Loving Memory of Pte. Fred Gavigan 7th Royal Fusiliers. Dearly beloved son of James & Mary E Gavigan who died from wounds 14th October 1918 aged 21 years. Greater love hath no man than this than to lay down his life for his friends."
Details from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission shows that Fred Gavigan had the service number 64302 and was 21 years of age when he died.
The following In Memoriam notice was published in the Yorkshire Herald on 14th October 1919:
Gavigan In loving remembrance of a dear son and brother, Pte. Pred. Gavigan, 7th Royal Fusiliers, who was wounded in action on 2nd October and died in 2nd General London Hospital, October 14th 1918.

Sadly missed by his loving Father, Mother, Brother and Sisters, also by his little nieces Mary and Dorothy.
